ROBERT TRENT JONES TO DESIGN SENECA GOLF COURSE PROJECT IN LEWISTON
Renowned architect has designed several PGA Tour courses

NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK - The Seneca Nation of Indians has selected one of the leading names in golf to design its proposed golf course project in the Town of Lewiston.

Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects was chosen to plan the layout for the $10 million - $15 million project that will be located on 257 acres of land located along the Robert Moses Parkway at Pletcher Road.

"We have very ambitious plans for this project, and wanted a designer who could help us create a world-class amenity and attraction in the Town of Lewiston," Barry E. Snyder, Sr., President of the Seneca Nation of Indians, said. "The legacy and track record of the Robert Trent Jones name speak for themselves. Their association with this project immediately starts us off on a path that will create great opportunity for the Seneca Nation, the Town of Lewiston and the surrounding community."

The Jones firm has designed more than 230 courses in 38 countries on six continents, including a remarkable 108 venues that have hosted World Cups, USGA Championships and PGA Tour events.

Among the courses in Jones' portfolio are Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course, host of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf; Southern Highlands, which hosts the PGA Tour's Las Vegas Invitational; and the Kalúhyat Golf Club at Turning Stone Resort, which was rated as the 3rd Best New Course in America in 2004 by Golf Digest. "Clearly, the Seneca Nation wants to develop a public golf course that not only offers a level of golf which is not currently available in the area, but a course that also stands out as one of the best in New York State," said Rajat R. Shah, who is assisting the Nation on the project. "This project has the potential to attract golf enthusiasts from across the northeast and Canada, and, ultimately, to host a professional event which will help put Lewiston on the map as a top-level destination."

The land for the project, which was acquired earlier this year, will remain on the public tax rolls, creating a new stream of revenue for Niagara County. Seneca officials expect to unveil the initial conceptual designs for the project in the coming weeks. The projected opening of the course will be in 2008.
